Affiliate Membership: Any ABC-certified orthotic or prosthetic technician or associate within the geographical boundaries of this chapter who is in good standing with the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists is eligible to become an Affiliate member of this chapter.

Chapter Benefits/Areas of Involvement

  • Support for UTSW Allied Science O&P students by providing the Prosthetic & Orthotic Atlas and sponsoring Senior Research Presentation evening.

  • The Texas Chapter donated $2,000 to the Orthotic & Prosthetic Education and Research Foundation (OPERF).

  • Support for Baylor College of Medicine O&P program by donating books to students.

  • Legislative Relations Committee pursuing chapter goals and objectives at the state government level.

Chapter Goals and Objectives

  • The mission of the chapter is to foster and assure the advancement of quality, outcome-oriented, comprehensive orthotic-prosthetic health care services to disabled persons in the State of Texas.

  • The goal of the chapter is to assist ABC practitioners wherever possible in maintaining the highest level of competency and knowledge in the delivery and regulation of comprehensive orthotic and prosthetic services.

  • The objective of the chapter is to provide continuing education opportunities for its members, as well as assist where necessary to assure that quality, outcome-oriented orthotic and prosthetic services are being provided to disabled individuals requiring comprehensive care and management.

Chapter History

The Texas Chapter is a professional society of ABC-credentialed practitioners, limited to and incorporated in the State of Texas. The chapter was founded and April 1979 and recognized as an official chapter of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists in December 1979.

Continuing Education Opportunities

The Texas Chapter strives to provide continuing education to allow its members to meet certification requirements without leaving the state.
