History

The Women in Orthotics and Prosthetics (Women in O&P) group was formed in 2005 by a group of young women at Georgia Tech who came together while studying at school and realized the need for such a group. What started in the student lounge has now become a committee within the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists.

Mission Goals & Objectives

The mission of the Women in O&P Committee is to expand and improve educational and professional opportunities for women in or looking to enter the orthotic and prosthetic profession.

Women in O&P Social Networking

The Women in Orthotics and Prosthetic's social networking site was created to facilitate discussion and networking among O&P professionals about topics important to women in the field of orthotics and prosthetics. Click here to access the networking site. We value your input to the monthly topics as your contributions will help foster these discussions. Please post any suggestions on topics for discussion. All members, regardless of gender, are welcome to join the discussion!

Resources within Orthotics and Prosthetics

One of the goals of the Women O&P Committee is to connect leaders within the O&P profession who are willing to assist or provide feedback to other practitioners on an as needed basis on their areas of expertise.

Participate in the Academy's Mentoring Program

The Academy's Mentoring Program pairs new entrants in the field (students, residents, and practitioners with three or fewer years experience) with mentors (practitioners with greater than three years experience) for mutual clinical, professional, and personal development. This program was created by the Women in O&P Committee. It is now being facilitated by the Student Resident Committee. Please visit the Student Resident Webpage for information and to access the mentoring registration form.
